The members of Kirjaclub Cigar Club in Helsinki, Finland celebrated their 10-year anniversary on February 18th with a spectacular gala dinner and after party. Starting off in a modest setting in 2007, the club has now more than 270 members, which makes it the largest private cigar club in the Nordic region.
The ever-tightening anti-smoking legislation has made it impossible to enjoy cigar smoking in any public place in Finland. This is why Kirjaclub has seen a steady rise in memberships during recent years. ”There is no real need for any marketing efforts for club memberships. The anti-tobacco legislation pushes cigar smokers to actively look for a comfortable setting to enjoy their beloved cigars and we are very happy to be able to provide that. In that sense, the Finnish government and EU legislation are working to our benefit.”, says the club president Mr. Petteri Patjas, who also works as an ambassador for Cigar Rights of Europe in Finland.
To mark the special occasion of the anniversary, Kirjaclub created a special limited edition watch together with the Swiss watch company Cuervo y Sobrinos. ”We are very honored and proud to work together with Cuervo y Sobrinos in our celebration to create something completely unique. The Cuban legacy and the design of their brand fits perfectly in the setting of our cigar club”, Patjas says. ”I would also like to thank Havana Club for their kind sponsorship for our gala dinner”, he continues.
Kirjaclub promotes cigar culture actively in Finland with various events and tastings. In addition to the 10-year mark for the Kirjaclub, Finland also celebrates it’s 100 years of independence in 2017. This theme is also visible in Kirjaclub activities this year.
