The new Tabacalera de García facilities will be dedicated exclusively to handmade cigars manufacture, with 2,100 employees and a capacity of production that exceeds 40 million sticks per year.
The Tabacalera Group has split off the British group Imperial Brands today with the formal purchase of the new facilities of Tabacalera de Garcia, the biggest cigar factory in Dominican Republic. With an investment of 15 million, the new factory will be dedicated exclusively to handmade cigars, with four manufacture “galeras”, 1,000 rollers, a total number of more than 2,100 employees and its production capacity will exceed 40 million cigars per year and more than one million cigar boxes.
The operation is framed in the purchase, started in 2020, of the former premium cigar division of Imperial Brands, concluding the process after the transfer of operations and the completion of the new facilities.
Fernando Dominguez, CEO of the Tabacalera Group, stated that „with the entry of Tabacalera de García into the group, the factory is at the epicenter of the business due to its relevance, because the art of making cigars is the essence of the business and because it represents the most important group of people in the company”.
The new industrial complex will retain the name of “Tabacalera de García”, one of the largest handmade cigars factories in the world, while the primitive facilities, still owned by Imperial Brands, will be dedicated to the production of machine made cigars and will operate under the name of “Imperial Tobacco la Romana”.
