A new Mexican puro is hitting the US and Mexican markets, Casa 1910, a new Mexican company under the expertise of Habanos Sommelier Manuel “Manolo” Santiago. The company is inspired in the Mexican Rovolution and seeks to explore the Mexican tobacco tradition with its new interpretation of what a Mexican puro should be like. The young brand was launched at the 2021 PCA trade show in Las Vegas and currently only sells in the US and Mexico, but has plans for a European expansion in 2022.
For now, their only vitola is the “Cuchillo Parado”, paying homage to the small town in Chihuahua, where the Mexican Revolution got started in 1910. The 5 x 50 Robusto cigar has a Mexican Sumatra wrapper, with a reddish colorado hue, covering a San Andres Negro binder and fillers. According to Manolo, the different tobaccos have been aged between three to six years and they are in the medium to medium-strong strength level, a departure from the traditional dark and strong San Andres tobacco that consumers are used to with Mexican cigars. The cigar retails in the US for $15, and comes in presentation boxes of 10 cigars for $150 and 20 cigars for $300.
