Vegas de Santiago Introduces D8 Maduro

Marc Niehaus at Vegas de Santiago was especially happy at this year’s InterTabac, because he got to bring back an old blend in a new, yet existing, form.

“I made this blend ten years ago for a cigar called Vegas de Santiago Heritage,” he says. “It was a beautiful maduro cigar and I really liked it, but nobody wanted maduros at the time, so we stopped making them.”

After having heard more and more people saying they like maduro cigars in recent years, he decided to bring it back, though, but not as Heritage. Instead he named it D8 Maduro after his most popular line.

“People are more educated nowadays and they don’t necessarily have the connotation that dark means strong. This is a smooth, creamy, nutty and fruity medium body cigar, so the blend is different from the classic D8. If I had to market it under the name Heritage it would have been like marketing a completely new brand, though. This way it’s like a meeting between the past and future.”

The D8 Maduro comes in two sizes, Wide Churchill and Robusto. Besides this he also introduced two additions to the classic D8 line; Short Corona and Culebra.
