WINNING BID COMES FROM UK’S MANU HARIT
STUNNING Cuban girls, a slick stage and light show and more than 2,000 cigar lovers from the furthest reaches of the globe made this week’s Gala Dinner to round off the week-long Habanos Festival truly a night to remember.
Cuban greats of stage and screen entertained guests and several vitolas of the legendary Trinidad house were handed out to mark the 50th year of this treasured brand.
Formerly available only as diplomatic gifts, Trinidad is now a sought-after high-end marque in its own right. And on a night dedicated to its half century, it was fitting that a magnificent humidor to mark the occasion – made by Italian maestro Massimo de Munari – took centre stage.
The piece was the first of 100 which will be made. Manu Harit of the UK won with an astonishing 300,000 Euro bid. You can read more about Harit, and a magical trip to Dom Perignon in his company, in Nick Hammond’s article in the latest issue of Cigar Journal.
Other Lots sold on the night included huge, wardrobe style humidors from the likes of Cohiba, Hoyo and Romeo y Julieta. The auction raised more than a million Euros, which Habanos SA says will go to the Cuban national health service.
