Camacho Building a New Cigar Factory in Danlí, Honduras

In May this year Oettinger Davidoff is hoping to open up a new and much bigger factory for their Camacho brand in Danlí, expecting to double production within the next five years. Camacho is currently building the new factory in the outskirts of Danlí, Honduras. It’s going to be 21,000 square meters, almost twice the size of their current one (11,000 m2). This is to keep up with the expected increase in demand.

„The company is growing and the expectation is that the production will double within the next five years,“ Luis Tábora, Head of Finance, says. „Last year we introduced our main brand, Camacho, in the EU, for instance, and it’s gone really well.“

The plan to build a new factory came about a couple of years ago and the construction started in May last year. The move to the new facilities is planned for May this year. „We will have our own curing barn and fermentation there and we will start growing our own tobacco here in Honduras,“ Manuel Batista, General Manager, says. „Until now all our own tobacco has come from the Dominican Republic,“ Tábora adds. „Hopefully we will have our first crop this year.“

With the new factory Camacho will be able to produce 24 million cigars annually, which of course will give a lot more job opportunities, but also secure the jobs of the already employed. „This will give them a better environment to work in and now they know that we are here to stay,“ Batista says. „There have been many companies that have come and gone, but this investment is a statement for our long term plans.“
