Procigar 2026 Day One

A great festival like Procigar, now approaching its twentieth edition, the first one having been held in 2008, carries the commitment to reinvent itself year after year. Procigar is the premier event dedicated to Dominican tobacco and a globally renowned gathering that is, without a doubt, a grand five-day celebration where passionados and professionals from all five continents give it their all. Lots of partying, lots of fun, lots of passion, and above all, lots of tobacco. Yet there is always a hunger for more.

Procigar 2026, the Dominican cigar festival, takes place in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic from February 17th to 21st, and this year it features several new highlights. The first of these was held on February 17th on the rooftop of the Residence Inn hotel and was an original workshop called “Retailers Exclusive.”

Procigar has organized a new gathering for retailers attending the festival, during which industry members provide access to exclusive cigars created, prepared, and packaged specifically for Procigar 2026. These boxes of cigars can only be purchased at the workshop and will never again be available afterward. The goal is not to sell cigars, but rather to give shop owners attending the festival a competitive edge, enabling them to offer their customers exclusive cigars that no one else will have. This is yet another reason why, if you own a shop or are a distributor in your home country, you should attend Procigar next year.

There are even more new features this year at Procigar 2026, a festival that is always the same in spirit, fun, celebration, and tobacco, yet always different. An event with a long history that, year after year, presents itself as new, improved, and an essential appointment.

Javier Blanco Urgoiti is a Spanish journalist who is crazy about the processes surrounding tobacco that take place before its manufacturing in the cigar factory – in particular the secrets of tobacco cultivation. This is an area in which he tirelessly tries to educate himself. Javier started smoking and writing about cigars in 1998, initially for the Spanish magazines La boutique del fumador and La cava de cigarros, and later, as chief press officer at La Aurora, the oldest tobacco factory in the Dominican Republic. Now he writes for Cigar Journal as a correspondent in Spain.
