The Vault | Cigar Friendly, Idaho

Just outside of Boise, Idaho lies a quaint little town called Meridian.  It is in this town of Meridian where one can find the former bank turned cigar lounge called The Vault.  Called as such because the lounge is quite literally the old bank vault of the Bank of Meridian.  Joshua and Lori Evarts have done a spectacular job of restoring the old brick to give the space character you just can’t buy.  They have also designed the inside to work in perfect harmony with the old brick to make the ambiance come alive!  In Germany they would call this high level of coziness Gemütlichkeit, but here in The US, we call it The Vault.

At The Vault, friendship and camaraderie are king.  There is no membership fee, there is no VIP room, there is only harmony and equality.  The desired effect is that all the patrons come and socialize with one another while smoking a fine cigar and letting the troubles of the world fade away.  Coffee and tea are available for tip only, but great local beers and wines are available for purchase.

The humidor is filled with great cigars that tell a story.  Josh and Lori chose to carry fewer big cigar manufactureres and focus on the smaller, boutique brands that usually come with a heroic tale of beating the odds to get that cigar on a national stage.  The result is a journey through the lives of many who have struggled to achieve their dreams as you walk around the humidor which is someplace special.

There are a couple of ways that you can familiarize yourself with Josh and The Vault from the comfort of your home.  Hop on Youtube and check out the channel about Josh’s alter ego: Cigar Don Williams.  Cigar Don Williams is a master tobacconist that looks eerily similar to Josh, but has his own schtick as he discusses the highs and lows of trying to educate the public on the ways of tobacco.  Have fun watching!  I absolutely did!

The second is to watch the video on The Vault on Cigar Journal’s own Brick Mortar and Smoke channel on Youtube.  This time Josh, not Don, discusses The Vault Concept and why it is such a special place.

So when you finally cross Boise, Idaho area off of your bucket list, make sure you stop into The Vault.  You can check out a game of football on the blue turf of Boise State, go for a hike in the mountains, get your fly fishing fix and then cap it off with a great meal and a visit to The Vault.  Josh and Lori will be there waiting to hear your story to add it to the tapestry of what makes this lounge great.
