Maya Selva Cigars Premiere in Danlí, Honduras

Another cigar with a good story to be told. Last night, in Danlí, Honduras, Flor de Selva presented the new Flor de Selva 30 Aniversario Salomón for the world premiere. Was Maya Selva herself who did it so in front of a hundred guests who are attending the celebration of the three decades of its brand and the official opening of its new factory.

Flor de Selva has chosen for this commemorative cigar the format of the great occasions: a Salomón, doble figurado, seven inches (178 mm) ring gauge 56, at its thickest part. The blend is one hundred percent Honduran tobacco for wrapper, binder and filler with a peculiarity: the cigar has spent the last five years already rolled in the cellar waiting for that great occasion to come.

This extra rest was not in the plan, actually. The 30th anniversary salomón was rolled in 2019, ready to be the commemorative cigar for Flor de Selva’s 25th anniversary. According to Filippo Costi, Flor de Selva’s international sales manager, “We were just missing the boxes to start offering it to the markets when everything stopped: there were no boxes, there was no transport, there was nothing… Then, Maya said: “No problem, we save them for the 30th anniversary.”

Five years later, they will soon be released to the markets, with that additional five years of cellar resting. It is a limited edition of 25,000 cigars for the whole world, which will be presented in 10-count boxes and whose price has not yet been revealed.

This is an area in which he tirelessly tries to educate himself. Javier started smoking and writing about cigars in 1998, initially for the Spanish magazines La boutique del fumador and La cava de cigarros, and later, as chief press officer at La Aurora, the oldest tobacco factory in the Dominican Republic. Now he writes for Cigar Journal as a correspondent in Spain.
