Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to read Cigar Journal, whatever device they use and whatever their abilities. This statement explains how we build the website with accessibility in mind, where we know it still falls short, and how to tell us about a problem.

Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard referred to by European accessibility law.
What we do
- Pages are structured with headings and landmarks, so they can be navigated with a screen reader.
- Every page can be used with a keyboard. A “Skip to content” link leads straight to the main content, and the element in focus is always clearly marked.
- Images carry text descriptions.
- Text and background colours are chosen for sufficient contrast.
- The layout adapts to any screen size, and you can zoom the page without losing content or functions.
- Animations are reduced when your device is set to reduce motion, and nothing on the site flashes.
- Forms have labels and clear messages, and the age confirmation on entry can be answered by keyboard and screen reader.
How we check
We test the main page types (the home page, articles, news sections, ratings and the newsletter page) with automated accessibility checks and by hand with a keyboard. At the last review, in September 2026, these pages passed all automated checks.
Known limitations
- Some images in our older archive have a general description, such as the article's headline, rather than a description of the picture itself.
- Some documents, such as rating lists and terms published as PDF files, may not be fully accessible.
- Advertisements are designed by the advertisers, and text inside an advertisement image may not be available to screen readers.
- Our webshop at shop.cigarjournal.com and our digital edition at digital.cigarjournal.com are separate services and are not covered by this statement.
