Liverpool’s favorite tiny tobacconist, Turmeaus, was established in 1817 and has just become the UK’s largest specialist cigar shop. C.Gars Ltd took over Turmeaus in 2003. The London-based company’s new flagship store, rechristened Turmeaus Cigars and Whisky, is now in the center of Liverpool.
“The epicenter of cigar retailing in the UK is shifting from London to the north and looks set to grow,” says Mitchell Orchant, managing director of C.Gars Ltd. “Liverpool is in the heart of the Northern Powerhouse and seems to be cornering the market in business start-ups that have something to celebrate.”
The new, very comfortable cigar-sampling lounge in Liverpool has a state-of-the-art smoke extraction system and is the perfect place for business people to relax, schmooze and network. Turmeaus Liverpool now has one of the largest walk-in humidors in Britain, with an extensive range of cigars and tobacco-related products. “Our revamped shop is the only place in northern Britain where customers can legally enjoy a fine cigar indoors and wash it down at a fully licensed bar offering premium whisky by the dram,” Orchant concludes.
The second building phase of C.Gars Ltd’s Liverpool development is expected to start shortly, and will provide an additional cigar shop and cigar-sampling lounge, a whisky/cocktail lounge, a tapas restaurant, and the largest whisky bar in northern Britain.
