La Flor Dominicana Expands Factory in Tamboril

La Flor Dominicana is currently increasing their factory. Within the next month the production area in their factory in Tamboril in the Dominican Republic will become a lot bigger.

“After that it’s the matter of finding good rollers and securing the tobacco we need,” vice president Tony Gomez says. “It’s a gradual process. We’re hoping to be up and running at the end of the year.”

At the moment they have 35 pairs of rollers producing 3.5 million cigars a year. When it’s all done there will be 45-50 pairs rolling between 4 and 5 million cigars annually.

“And that might be it in terms of expanding for us. We don’t want this to grow too big, so we can’t manage it ourselves. We want to keep the small family boutique aspect.”

Since graduating with an engineering degree in surveying in 2005, Simon Lundh has preferred to follow a profession in journalism. He stumbled upon the cigar world while working for a non-governmental organization in Estelí, Nicaragua, and is now mainly making a living writing about cigars, metal music, tattoos, and travel.
