In April 2017, the official Swedish qualification tournament for the Cigar Smoking World Championship took place at Gothenburg tobacconist Mellgren’s for the 4th time. Gustav Nygren came in first with a smoking time of one hour and eighteen minutes for the official competition cigar, a Macanudo Inspirado Mareva. Karl Martin Brix Nelson followed close with an offset of only one minute. Piotr Edward Karlsson made the third place with a smoking time of one hour and fourteen minutes. Igor Kovacic, the best Swede in the official world record ranking, only took the 7th place at this qualification tournament.
The long ash competition sponsored by Royal Danish Cigars was won by Srecko Pavicevic.
Along with other participants, all winners of the international qualifying trials will compete against one another to smoke the Macanudo Inspirado Mareva as slowly as possible at the Cigar Smoking World Championship in Split, Croatia.
