China’s International Cigar Expo Postponed in 2021

China’s International Cigar Expo (ICE) returns in early November 2021 and scheduled to be held at the Tianfu International Convention Center in Chengdu from November 8 to 10 this year has been postponed due to the continued impact of Covid-19 on international travel.

A media release from the organisers stated:
Considering the current situation of COVID-19 in China and across the globe, the 2021 International Cigar Expo (Chengdu), due to be held in Chengdu China on November 8th-10th, will be postponed to comply with relevant regulations on pandemic prevention and control of the country. The date of Expo will be determined separately according to the situation. This difficult decision aims to protect the safety and health of our exhibitors, visitors, staff, local people in the host city, and for all other participants.

Although by the end of July, over 95% of booths had been booked and it can be called a success in some way, exhibitors and professional visitors from overseas will still find it difficult to attend the Expo in China amid current COVID-19 pandemic. We always sincerely hope and welcome exhibitors, visitors, and guests from the cigar industry across the globe can come and carry out exchanges, and negotiate business opportunities. We always believe the value of face-to-face communication can never be replaced by that of any other form.

We will never swerve from the aim to set the Expo as an authoritative, professional and open platform for exhibition and trade internationally; we will commit to the guideline of elevating opening-up to a new level to promote international cooperation amid the push at a faster rate for a new development landscape which takes the domestic market as the mainstay and allows domestic and foreign markets to boost one another; we will continue to act in the spirit of openness, cooperation and win-win results to promote international exchanges and cooperation for both cigar industry and cigar supporting industries, and invite witnesses to share the benefits generated by the innovation-driven development of the cigar industry in China.

Hosted by China Cigarette Sales Corporation and China Tobacco International Group Limited, organized by China Tobacco Sichuan Industrial Co., Ltd., and co-organized by China Tobacco Anhui, Shandong, Hubei Industrials Co., Ltd., China Tobacco Hubei, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan provincial companies, and Shenzhen Tobacco Import and Export Co., Ltd., 2021’s Expo was again to focus on the exhibition of premium cigars and related products of Chinese and foreign brands, cigar culture and lifestyle experience, with a total exhibition area of over 10,000 square meters.

“Various products and services will be exhibited, including premium cigars, tobacco, accessories, pipes, drinks pairings, lifestyle, auxiliary materials, cigar machinery, and cigar media,” said Mr Ma Ji, Secretariat of the Organizing Committee of the 2021 International Cigar Expo (Chengdu), at the event’s announcement. “As well as the exhibition floor, ICE will feature a Cigar Night Welcome Party, Cigar Industry Development Forum, Cigar International Academic Forum, professional seminars, and cigar tasting seminars to facilitate mutual development in terms of trade, technology, and project cooperation in the cigar industry.” A virtual exhibition platform will be showcased during the Expo and offer a creative space for display, communication, and interaction.

Chengdu, located in Sichuan Province, was chosen as a host city as it is one of the largest markets in China, with a solid industrial base and huge potential for the cigar industry. Sichuan Province is also China’s base for premium air-cured tobacco.
