MBombay Releases Kesara Pyramid 2020 and MQBA Mayura Pyramid 2019

MBombay Cigars is releasing two limited-edition pyramids: the Kesara Pyramid, rolled in 2020 and numbered across 834 boxes of 10, and the MQBA Mayura Pyramid, rolled in 2019 and numbered across 826 boxes of 10. Together they total 16,600 cigars.

Every MBombay blend has been released in only two sizes, toro and robusto. These pyramids are the first exception, and the company does not expect to make them again.

Two limits set the size of this release. Only one roller at MBombay's Costa Rica factory could make the pyramid shape to the brand's standard, and the tobacco came from a single, finite lot. When that lot was rolled, the run was complete.

Neither cigar was released when it was made. The MQBA Mayura has rested since 2019 and the Kesara Pyramid since 2020, held so each blend could come forward before going to market. MBombay directs fermentation and leaf aging with its factory, then ages finished cigars in the United States before release.

The Kesara Pyramid takes MBombay's lightest-shade blend into a tapered format. It uses an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper over an Ecuador H.2000 binder, with filler from the Dominican Republic and Peru Mejorado.

The MQBA Mayura is the older of the two, rolled in 2019. It is built on MBombay's MQBA blend, with an Ecuador Habano HVA wrapper in a colorado claro shade, over an Ecuador binder, with filler from Paraguay, Peru and Nicaragua.

Mayura is the Sanskrit word for peacock, and the cigar's white oval band carries a gold peacock. Boxes are numbered out of 826.

"We had one roller who could make this shape and one lot of tobacco to make it from," said Mel S., founder of MBombay Cigars. "When the lot was gone, so was the run. Then we waited until the cigars were ready, not until the calendar said it was time."
