Hendrik Kelner Junior Smoking Jacket Henkie

Kelner Boutique Factory Bringing Smoking Jacket to Europe

Kelner Boutique Factory, the small handmade cigars business run by Hendrik Kelner Jr., arrives in Europe with the classic line of Smoking Jacket in four sizes: the Favorito (152 mm x 46), “called favourite because is the one I like best to smoke”, Kelner says; Toro Magno (178 mm x 49), long and elegant; a Robusto Imperial (127 mm x 52), and the trendy Short Robusto (114 mm x 56).

The blend is made with Dominican tobaccos from the “family reserve”. “I have a lot of tobacco aging in pacas, with long processes”, assures Kelner. “I am not in a hurry to produce cigars, because what I want to achieve is balance and flavour, no strength”.

Kelner is releasing a special edition of the Smoking Jacket cigar dedicated to his father, for which he has selected tobaccos that he knows Hendrik Kelner Sr. is fond of. The Smoking Jacket Henkie, a 152 mm x 51 vitola with a wrapper grown in Cotuí, DR, by Monika Kelner; the binder from his father’s crop. The filler is comprised of 80% of Dominican tobaccos and 20% of leaves from Condega, Nicaragua, “which I know my father’s likes a lot.”

Javier Blanco Urgoiti is a Spanish journalist who is crazy about the processes surrounding tobacco that take place before its manufacturing in the cigar factory – in particular the secrets of tobacco cultivation. This is an area in which he tirelessly tries to educate himself. Javier started smoking and writing about cigars in 1998, initially for the Spanish magazines La boutique del fumador and La cava de cigarros, and later, as chief press officer at La Aurora, the oldest tobacco factory in the Dominican Republic. Now he writes for Cigar Journal as a correspondent in Spain.
