InterTabac meets The Cigar Academy

Throughout its history going back over 40 years, InterTabac has always been evolving. It has transformed from a pure product show into a forum constantly giving visitors and exhibitors greater added value for their businesses, with dialogue, sensory experiences and skills training becoming ever more important elements of the supporting programm. And so, Messe Dortmund is delighted to announce a valuable new collaboration, with around nine months to go before the 2025 show. This relates to the cigar segment, one of InterTabac’s core competencies from the very beginning. This partnership with The Cigar Academy is intended to reinforce the show’s educational content in this segment.

The Cigar Academy, launched in The United States in early 2024, is dedicated to protecting, cultivating and passing on the craft heritage and traditional knowledge underlying tobacco growing and cigar making. This is done through a comprehensive training programm developed and certified in conjunction with leading cigar manufacturers in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico – listed on The Cigar Academy´s website –, and offered via a high-tech advanced learning platform, complemented with hybrid and in person workshops. The proposition is aimed not just at businesses in the cigar industry, but also very much at businesses elsewhere, and also at connoisseurs and policy-makers.

Skills training to guard the cultural heritage

“For all cigar lovers seeking authentic knowledge on the cultural heritage and artisanal traditions of the cigar world, The Cigar Academy is the ultimate resource,” said Ricardo Carioni, co-founder of The Cigar Academy. His business partner Thomas Gryson added: “Ultimately, education is our strongest weapon against misled regulations, and to help us protect and nurture the true cigar culture of our forefathers.”

Together with the InterTabac team, the two well-known cigar industry experts will be developing an educational programm specifically for InterTabac and InterSupply participants over the coming months. The ink has only just dried on the partnership agreement, but the planning is well underway.

Sabine Loos, Managing Director of Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe which owns and operates the Messe Dortmund venue, is delighted with the new technical partners: “The cigar industry has always been represented strongly at InterTabac. Being able to offer cigar lovers and professionals a new and, above all, enriching service is tremendously important to us. It emphasises the importance of InterTabac as the global flagship show in the tobacco industry. And it’s a win-win situation for everyone, giving The Cigar Academy the opportunity to present itself to a host of key industry players at the show, and enabling exhibitors and visitors to benefit from high-quality educational programms they can leverage for their businesses.”

People coming to the show can already look forward to the customised information packages that will be waiting for them between 18 and 20 September 2025.
