At the recent launch party, cocktails created by a drinks mixologist and four different cigars, New World and Cuban, welcomed guests at London’s newest cigar lounge: 1A St James’s – Dunhill’s newly-refurbished flagship store and lounge.
Futuristically designed, the shop includes lockers for members, who can hire their own brass-fronted locker to store their smokes, and a glass, floor-to-ceiling, fully ventilated sampling room that includes newspapers and a coffee machine.
The store was designed to highlight the travels and artistry associated with fine tobacco, stocking aged and currentproduction Havanas and also a full range of New World sticks. In the back room, a tobacco wheel has real tobaccos to feel and smell; leather-bound bales give an idea of the produce of each tobacco growing region.
“It was a great night and we saw a few familiar faces as well as some new ones,” said store manager Robert Emery, well known on the London cigar scene. “We’ll be hosting more events like these – the store opens itself up very well to this sort of thing and it’s a great way of introducing ourselves to people.” Vintage sticks – like the legendary Dunhill Don Candido range from the company’s time in Cuba – are stocked in singles in the humidor. Cigars can be sampled in-store.
