Davidoff announced the global launch of its second Limited Art Edition in June 2016 at Art Basel, Switzerland, in collaboration with Jamaican-French artist Olivia McGilchrist. The Davidoff Limited Art Edition 2016 consists of a cigar edition limited to 7’000 unique boxes, each featuring an exclusive still extracted from McGilchrist’s video ‘from many sides’. Each box will carry 10 perfecto cigars.
The new cigar uses an Ecuador wrapper and a Dominican Piloto binder. The filler is comprised of Dominican Piloto Visus, San Vicente Mejorado Seco, Mejorado and Yamasá Seco. Retail prices have not been announced yet. The 2014 Art Edition is still available for EUR 30,- | CHF 36,- | USD 35.00.
Additionally to the regular limited edition, another run of Collector’s Editions consisting of one of sixteen numbered editions of the commissioned video, a cigar box featuring a unique still image from the video, and a signed certificate by the artist, will also be released at Art Basel (see photo below). Visitors to Art Basel will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a 3D virtual reality video piece by McGilchrist.
Part of the revenues generated by the Davidoff Limited Art Edition 2016 will be dedicated to sustaining the Davidoff Art Initiative and supporting artists from the Caribbean.
