Villiger opened a brand new factory in Estelí

After only around 12 months of construction, the currently most modern cigar factory in Nicaragua was completed at the end of September 2021 in Estelí, the Mecca of the Nicaraguan cigar industry. The project is a joint venture between The Villiger Group and Joya de Nicaragua.

Among other things, new types of insulation were also used for the external facades, for better insulation and lower energy costs.

Villiger produces around 16 brands of cigars there on around 1,500 square meters. At the start, 100 qualified employees were entrusted with the various tasks: the raw tobacco sorting, through rolling to quality inspection, sorting, packaging and shipping to the various world markets.

Villiger de Nicaragua produces the Villiger brands La Meridiana, San`Doro, La Vencedora, La Libertad, Casa de Nicaragua and Corrida, among others. Mr. Heinrich Villiger commented: “Our goal was to create a modern production facility where hand-rolled premium cigars are produced for all Villiger markets worldwide. From raw tobacco purchasing to shipping, Villiger now has quality control completely in one hand. With the new Villiger de Nicaragua factory, we will be able to strengthen and expand our market position in all markets in the future, especially in the largest sales market for handmade cigars – the USA.“

Due to the Corvid 19 situation still prevailing in Nicaragua, the company has decided to postpone the official opening with guests from all over the world until next spring.
