The Henry Clay ‘War Hawk’ gets a Churchill

Premium cigar fans soon will have an opportunity to enjoy the award-winning Henry Clay War Hawk via a much-anticipated line extension to include a Churchill.

Aficionados may recall that the Henry Clay War Hawk was Cigar Aficionado’s #10 Cigar of the Year in 2020. Now bigger really is beautiful as this award-winning blend extends to a 56 x 7 Churchill size. MSRP is $9 per cigar and debuts in December.

It’s only fitting that a “Churchill” is next for this brand – especially given this cigar’s heritage. First released in 2019 by Altadis U.S.A., the Henry Clay War Hawk pays homage to its namesake, Henry Clay, who rose to Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in the early 1800s and was the leading voice in boldly applying pressure on President James Madison to defend the young nation. The term “War Hawk” was coined and is still used today in political circles. Winston Churchill, for whom the Churchill-cigar size is named, is a more modern-day example of a fierce competitor who never gives up.

This Henry Clay War Hawk recognizes Henry Clay’s lasting influence and rebellious nature by not using a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper – as do most other Henry Clay brands. This medium-bodied blend sports an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, which houses a broadleaf binder and Honduran filler.
