Inside the Summer Edition 2017

COVER: PLASENCIA – Hardly any other family is as highly esteemed in the industry as the Plasencias. In our cover story we focus on the family’s fifth generation: Gustavo, Nestor Jr. and José Luis. Even if Nestor Sr. still has the say, it’s the three brothers who are optimally prepared to lead the company into the future.

VINTAGE – In the basement of the legendary Davidoff of London cigar shop, stacked from floor to ceiling, slumber cigars that are cherished for their scarcity and collector’s value. But what are the new additions in this illustrious round?

TRAVEL – We visited the cigar scene in Hong Kong for you and put together a list of cigar hotspots. We also report about the best places on Majorca and in Beverly Hills for passionados to smoke, stay, and eat. Visitors to Las Vegas and also the upcoming IPCPR will find out where the top locations are for cigar smokers in Sin City.

INTERVIEWS – It’s all a matter of taste – or perhaps not? What you have to be able to do to judge cigars and spirits on an expert level is disclosed by the Cuban Maestra del Ron Salomé Alemán Carriazo, as well as Walter Saes Rodriguez Neto, winner of the Habanos Sommelier competition 2015, in interviews.

CIGAR STORAGE – In the Humidor Corner Marc André writes about the results of a storage test: What are the effects of fluctuating temperature and humidity on the aroma and smoke behaviour of cigars?

BLIND TASTING – Among the best cigars of this issue’s tastings, Davidoff’s Year of the Rooster 2017 and My Father The Judge Grand Robusto especially stood out – each scoring 93 points. The new Romeo y Julieta EL 2016 Capuletos, with 92 points, likewise performed well.
