El Güegüense JR 50th Collector’s Edition

The list of 50^th Anniversary collaborators for JR Cigar continues to grow. Now the company is joining forces with Nick Melillo and his team at Foundation Cigars for the release of a new version of Foundation’s first cigar — El Güegüense.   

El Güegüense, Spanish for “The Wise Man,” is the name of a Nicaraguan dramatic theater piece from the 16^th Century. Melillo chose the name in honor of his love of Nicaragua and its people. In 2020, Foundation released a 5^th Anniversary edition of the El Güegüense with a slightly tweaked blend – and JR Cigar’s 50^th Collector’s Edition is based on that special blend.  

“It is an incredible honor to work with JR Cigar on this project and to bring a touch of Foundation Cigars to the 50^th Celebration,” Melillo said. “El Güegüense was our first release and will always hold a special place in my heart, and seeing as how we just released a special 5^th anniversary edition, I thought it would be perfect to turn this tweaked blend into something special for JR Cigar. “

Hand crafted in Nicaragua at the TABSA factory, the El Güegüense JR 50th uses aged Corojo ‘99 and Criollo ‘99 filler tobaccos from Nicaragua. The binder is a Mexican San Andrés leaf that is in a Corojo ‘99 wrapper from the Jalapa region of Nicaragua.

This cigar is offered in a custom 10-count box with a beautiful art piece on the inside cover. The artwork was designed by Melillo and Foundation Art Director Alex Garcia. Available in one size: 6 ¼ X 46 Lonsdale, just 500 boxes have been made.
