Enrique Sánchez first introduced his XO line at IPCPR 2015, and began distribution in spring 2016. As a playful reference to the brand name, only 1,520 boxes of 10 cigars were produced and made available to a select group of specialty retailers. “XO” means “extra old” and typically refers to rum or Cognac, but in the case of the 1502 XO it means that some of the tobacco blends have been aged for 18 years. The first XO is a box-pressed Toro – but Sanchez let it slip that every additional, annual XO will be released in a different vitola.
Tasting notes: “A tangy cigar with a light pepperiness, nutty aromas, as well as coffee and fruity sweetness. In the middle, it is very chocolaty, with earthy and leathery aromas; toward the end, it changes back to espresso. Medium+.”
