The European Cigar Manufacturers Association (ECMA) published its annual EU trade data for 2022.
The EU cigar market continues to show a strong interest for imported cigars and cigarillos, with imports showing a spectacular increase of 29.97% between 2021 and 2022.
“While EU market data confirms the long-term decrease in consumption of cigars and cigarillos, import data clearly reveals an increasing interest of EU aficionados for terroir products manufactured in historic cigar tobacco producing countries.”, ECMA Director General, Paul Varakas stated.
Today, the EU remains a world-leading exporter of cigars and cigarillos, exporting more than
1372 tons of cigars and cigarillos worth over 181 million euros in cigars/cigarillos.
