Cigar Journal: What was your professional background before you founded the company Les Fines Lames?
Pierre Jourdan: I worked in the gaming industry and in burial services before I founded a consulting and communication company. To become known, I needed a product that I could push on social networks. As a cigar smoker I was sick of having pockets full of accessories. I remembered my grandfather, who was a gardener and always had a knife on him … And then I decided to combine a cutter and a knife.
Cigar Journal: Before you started your crowdfunding campaign on the Internet, you benefited from some unexpected support – from Maya Selva!
PIERRE JOURDAN: I came up with the idea of engraving the first finished knife for her. In 2015, I was at the 20 Years of Flor de Selva festival in Paris. Maya, who couldn’t put the knife in her pocket because she was in evening dress, asked the sales director to cut all the cigars that evening using my knife! Just imagine the advertising that was achieved through that!
Cigar Journal: What does your knife series consist of?
PIERRE JOURDAN: We produce limited series of 50 pieces each. The knives are made from green micarta, ebony, rosewood, and snakewood.
Cigar Journal: Do you have other projects?
PIERRE JOURDAN: Yes, we would like to partner with other luxury brands, like this humidor for yachts. The humidor has room for 400 cigars, a bottle, and glasses, and also an apparatus for depositing newspapers.
