Greek CSWC Winner Stripped of Title

For the first time in the history of the Cigar Smoking World Championship a national champion has been stripped of his or her title. The dramatic turn of events took place at the third ever qualifier in Greece and the decision was made after a significant rule violation; the contestant was caught on film relighting his cigar.

Additionally, the contestant will be permanently banned from participating in any CSWC competitions and activities in the future, both nationally and globally. Another contestant, also involved in the breach of rules, will suffer the same consequences.

“This premeditated behavior was meticulously planned, undermining the spirit of fair competition that the CSWC upholds,” the CSWC states on its website. “The decision serves as a clear message from the CSWC Judge Association and the CSWC Organization, that any unfair actions or behaviors aimed at compromising the honor of this competition will not be tolerated. The integrity of the CSWC is paramount, and the organization is committed to maintaining a fair and honorable competitive environment.”

The event was held at Blends Mix & Match, a restaurant in Glyfada, just south of Athens. A total of 22 smokers participated and in the end, John Intzirtzis took home the title, with Petros Katzos and John Plafoutzis claiming 2nd and 3rd place. Intzirtzis’ winning time was 1 hour 45 minutes and 5 seconds.

1.     John Intzirtzis 1:45:05
2.     Petros Katzos 1:16:40
3.     John Plafoutzis 1:16:10
