The fourth edition of the Latvian qualification round for the Cigar Smoking World Championships was recently held at the premises of Riga Cigar Club. All 15 participants were local and around half of them were competing for the first time. In fact, the top three were all first time competitors.

“This goes to show that anyone can win, even first timers,” says Dmitry Smirnov, organizer and judge. “ In the beginning the atmosphere was really relaxed, according to Smirnov, but after half an hour people really started to feel that competitive spirit.

“When there were only two guys left, the winner, Denis Demitch, was holding strong, very close to the band, when cigar of the leader, Nikola Barnjak, suddenly went out.”
