Davidoff presented the second edition of its humidor collection \u201cCave de Paille\u201d at Art Basel. The collection is created in collaboration with Paris-based artist Lison de Caunes and crafted using the traditional technique of marqueterie de paille (straw marquetry).<\/p>\n

The new Davidoff collection of masterpiece humidors, consisting of three pieces, is inspired by similar patterns in time. Lison de Caunes has been the Artistic Director on this process from the very beginning: from choosing the shape of the humidor to tailoring the collection. She uses straw to draw geometric and organic patterns that are reminiscent of the cigar\u2019s shape and the colours of premium tobaccos aged to their prime. Each straw is cut to length, hand-flattened with tools made from bone, and then cut and placed side by side on a sheet of paper.<\/p>\n

Lison de Caunes utilises a mould made of bronze, specifically created for these masterpieces, to cut the straw into the desired shapes. She then creates the design straw-by-straw in a puzzle-like fashion combining shapes and directions to create an appealing effect of depth which complements the silky and shiny surface.<\/p>\n

The Season II humidor captures a significant moment in the life of a Davidoff cigar: it took 15 months, from concept to execution, for Lison de Caunes to combine patterns to finish \u201cSaison II\u201d. This second masterpiece is inspired by cigar bundles and wrappers.<\/p>\n

The first humidor in the collection \u2013 \u201cSaison I\u201d \u2013 has been showcased at Art Basel Hong Kong. The creation of this humidor was inspired by the growing tobacco leaf and has been released in March 2015.<\/p>\n

The inside of the humidor comes in okume\u0301 wood. Each Davidoff humidor is equipped with a self-regulating system that absorbs and releases humidity as required, and holds up to 65 cigars.<\/p>\n

The humidor will be available in limited quantities only at Davidoff Flagship Stores in the USA, Europe and Asia. The purchase of the humidor includes a complimentary one-year membership to the Hourglass Lounge, Davidoff’s Concierge Service.<\/p>\n

To complete the collection, the third humidor \u2013 \u201cSaison III\u201d \u2013 will be unveiled at Art Basel Miami Beach.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
