{"id":31055,"date":"2019-09-24T11:41:20","date_gmt":"2019-09-24T09:41:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/?p=31055"},"modified":"2019-09-24T11:41:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-24T09:41:20","slug":"george-gershel-passed-away-aged-89","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/george-gershel-passed-away-aged-89\/","title":{"rendered":"George Gershel Passed Away, Aged 89"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">George Gershel, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2019\u00a0 at his chalet in the Swiss Alps\u00a0 in Rougemont, Switzerland.\u00a0 Yolande, his loving wife and\u00a0 partner of almost 42 years was at his bedside.\u00a0\u00a0 George has been fighting a non curable disease\u00a0 for many years and it finally caused his demise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">In addition to his wife,\u00a0 he is survived by two daughters, a son and numerous grandchildren.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">George was a fourth generation tobacco man born in Hartford\u00a0 from the heart of the Connecticut Valley.\u00a0 He\u00a0was recognized\u00a0 thru out the tobacco world as a man who knew his tobacco, impeccable morals, his handshake was better than a contract and he always treated tobacco vendors fairly while protecting his employers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">George graduated from Cornell University, did a tour in US Army in Korean Conflict.\u00a0\u00a0 He started working for Consolidated Cigar in 1961.\u00a0\u00a0 George retired at the end of 2008 from Altadis USA (the successor to Consolidated Cigar) after being promoted thru the 47 years to the position of Executive Vice President of Tobacco.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>George Gershel, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2019\u00a0 at his chalet in the Swiss Alps\u00a0 in Rougemont, Switzerland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":25,"featured_media":31057,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false},"categories":[49,44],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/31055"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/25"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=31055"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/31055\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/31057"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=31055"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=31055"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=31055"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
