{"id":30314,"date":"2019-08-05T11:09:50","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T09:09:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/?p=30314"},"modified":"2019-08-05T11:23:34","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T09:23:34","slug":"spectacular-scottish-event-unites-cigar-and-whisky-giants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cigarjournal.com\/de\/spectacular-scottish-event-unites-cigar-and-whisky-giants\/","title":{"rendered":"SPECTACULAR SCOTTISH EVENT UNITES CIGAR AND WHISKY GIANTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Makers, manufacturers, enthusiasts and experts gather on the lawns of Robert The Bruce\u2019s ancestral home to pay homage to the dram \u2013 and the cigar\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>THE incredible backdrop of a historic Scottish stately home framed the nation\u2019s greatest ever cigar and whisky collaboration in July\u2013 and arguably one of the greatest ever held on the planet.<\/p>\n<p>Around 150 cigar and whisky fans from across the world gathered to celebrate Robert Graham\u2019s 145<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary \u2013 and legends from both industries flew in to help them do it.<\/p>\n<p>Broomhall House \u2013 ancestral home of Robert The Bruce \u2013 opened its doors to an extravaganza of Scottish flair and fayre. Oysters were served to guests enjoying the evening sun; and each was armed with a goodie bag overflowing with free gifts, from Cigar Journal subscriptions to Boveda humidifiers and a specially created pack of cigars featuring some of the world\u2019s best New World makers.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Drew attended in person, as did Didier Houvanhagel, Robert Caldwell, Alejandro Turrent and Tony Gomez. Representatives from Eiroa Cigars, Balmoral, and Alec Bradley were also present.<\/p>\n<p>Scotch specialists included Whyte &amp; MacKay, Tullibardine, Douglais Laing, House of MacAllum, Ian Macleod Distillers and Robert Graham Independent Bottlers, as well as Remy Cointreau.\u00a0 As the famous Scottish weather turned off the taps for a few hours and opened the curtains, warm sunshine greeted guests as they strolled on the manicured lawns of Broomhall House, a few miles outside Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Food stalls offered the finest smoked salmon and other tasty morsels to wash down the extraordinary libations on offer.\u00a0 A live rock band let fly a few riffs before the gathering was pulled together once more for a grand raffle that exceeded all expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Selling stellar Lots which included rare and unique artwork, humidors, books, cigars and amazing bottles, Robert Graham owner Steve Johnston kept the bids flowing for two great causes; Scottish children\u2019s charity Children 1<sup>st<\/sup> and the Nicaraguan branch of the <em>Fe y Alegria <\/em>(Faith and Happiness), a charity which works on behalf of underprivileged children in Estel\u00ed, cigar tobacco\u2019s growing mecca. Thanks to several generous bids from guests who were clearly enjoying themselves, an incredible total in excess of $10,000 was raised on the night, which will be split between both charities.<\/p>\n<p>The band fired up once more and revelries continued until coaches arrived to whisk elated guests to further debauchery \u2013 or to bed.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cigar Journal <\/em>caught up with joint organiser Steve Johnstone briefly on the night.
